Background

Before starting my practice I worked in community mental health, providing clinical counseling to individuals who experienced significant trauma. I am LGBTQ + affirming and work from a multicultural and systems perspective- acknowledging the societal inequalities that can contribute to our mental distress.

I also work as a local adjunct professor teaching "Hiking for Health", where class members engage in experiential learning regarding how hiking benefits us physically, mentally, and spiritually. Before I became a therapist I worked in several different realms:

  • Health & Physical Education Adjunct Professor

  • University Academic Advisor

  • Adventure-based Outdoor Guide, taking teens whitewater rafting, rock climbing and on challenge course elements

I have always felt a deep connection with the natural world, facilitated by living outdoors, training on the trails as a cross country athlete, and recreational pursuits. I worked outside for many summers as an adventure guide, where I led teens in adventure-based experiences. I weave elements of experiential therapy into counseling sessions. I currently volunteer with Suicide Bereavement Support Northwest as a group facilitator for individuals who have lost a loved one by suicide.

Theoretical Orientation

I take an integrative approach to therapy. I include elements of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, interpersonal, mindfulness, solutions-focused, eco-therapy, adventure therapy, feminist, multicultural, attachment, expressive, and experiential. I strive to understand each individual's unique worldview, values, and way of making meaning.

Mission

My mission is to facilitate experiences that empower others on their journey of mental wellness.

Outside of Work

When I'm not facilitating sessions I enjoy time outdoors, including hiking, camping, climbing, and kayaking.

Supervisor

As a Professional Counselor Associate I work under the supervision of Dr. Thomas Doherty, Psychologist, who is licensed in Oregon #1628 and Annie Pendygraft, PhD, Licensed Professional Counselor, #C3074.

Professional Workshops & Publications

I have led professional workshops for mental health therapists on the topics of hiking therapy, walk & talk therapy, and processing suicide bereavement. Check out my most recent publication in the Mazama's magazine: Doing the Privilege Walk in the Outdoor Adventure Community.

Aimee Frazier (she/her)

I believe that our experiences have the power to shape who we become, how we perceive ourselves, the world, and interact within our relationships.

As a therapist I bring my clinical experience to facilitate engaging and supportive experiences that foster personal growth and mental well-being.
